In this oven, the craftsmen of the beginning of the middle age, burned fragments of sarcophaguses made of marble of the Pyrenees, of the old burials of the necropolis that surrounded the religious building dedicated to St.-Sernin.
Of this marble incinerated in the oven,
they got the quick lime (to purify and to disinfect), and the extinct lime (for the construction). The museum St Raymond shelters an important collection of Gallo-Roman statuaries descended of the discoveries made in the region. It is as possible to admire many sarcophaguses Merovingians there, and of the Gallic pieces of goldwork... among other things.
There are temporary exhibitions regularly.
The museums of Toulouse are free open the first Sunday of every month.
