Day trip from Toulouse
by nowingingit
I will be in Toulouse for a few days (my second time) and would like to take some day trips. Any good suggestions? Albi is on the list and I have already been to Carcassone.
Thanks.

Many people enjoy Pau and combine it with Lourdes and I have read interesting things about Moissac which is a monastery to the NW of Toulouse.

I took the train to La Tour de Carol - right in the mountains on the border with Spain. A nice ride with some good scenery.
It's a three hour ride and trains run every two hours except for a gap in the middle of the day.

I can recommend Foix - to the SE, into foothills of the Pyrenees and Cauterets (to the SW and in the mountains proper)
I can also vouch for the other two suggestions. Pau is nice but I found Lourdes a bit touristy. The railway journey is fun.

Thanks for the responses. I have actually been to Pau and passed through Lordes on my previous trip. I will do some research on Moissac.
What about Cordes-Sur-Ciel? From what I read the town is a bit like Carcassone or Perouge?

My native house !
by Klod5
The house where I am born always exists !
Here is the house therefore where, September 19, 1956 I saw the day. At this time, the women didn't give birth again inevitably in a motherhood! It is a midwife who came home, to help my mother in this important moment for me.
A long time ago that I don't live in this house anymore, but I have an emotion every time that I pass street Saint - Michel...
stroll along the Garonne
by Jonathan_C
There is a path along the Garonne that is lovely and quiet. (At least it was in October.) The open vistas and greenery along the Garonne are the perfect antidote after a day walking the narrow streets of the center city.
The Garonne path provides another cycling route through the city -- the Canal du Midi being the primary one -- but at its southern end the path dumps you onto a moderately busy street.

La centrale hydroélectrique Bazacle.
by breughel
When from the St-Pierre bridge one looks downstream the river, eyes and ears are drawn by the waterfalls at the height of the reach of the Brienne river. There stands the hydroelectric power station from 1889 which replaced the Bazacle mill. The power station (3000 Kw) is still active and can be visited.
From the terrace one has a very nice view on the Garonne and its bridges.
Open Tuesday to Sunday from 14 to 19h. Free.

Gratuit
