Flemish baroque style
by Helga67
Arras has the two most beautiful squares of Nord-Pas-de-Calais: Place des Héros and Grand'Place. These cobbled squares are surrounded with 155 houses in Flemish baroque style. It's quite impressive viewing the uninterrupted alignment of beautiful houses for the first time.

We used the GR 127 (long distence footpath ) . This trail go from Arras to Boulogne-Sur-Mer.
The book we use (french writen) is Tours dans le Pas de Calais . It descrive the way . Give many useful informations: distances, possibilities (sleeping, eating, transportations,...) on the way.
Also give a (short) information about the places you come along. Important is the maps (on 1/50000) where the trail is marked with a red line. The way is (good) marked with withe and red coulours.

---oooOOOooo--- You better use good walking boots , a good backpack, don't forget any food and drink. there are not possibilities every where.

Proud, indestructible, a such guard it takes care on this beautiful village, nested in his bosky bower.
That stories it could tell us, crossing the fury of the men and time...
Guided tours for the groups on go. The guided tours are free, they last of 1h with 1h15.

Grand'Place
by Helga67
The biggest and most beautiful square of Arras, Grand'Place, is located just one street away from the other famous square, Places des Héros.
Grand’Place housed rich agricultural and seed merchants. Their houses dated from the 17th and 18th centuries but were largely demolished during the Great War. They were reconstructed stone by stone after 1918, faithfully following their previous appearance (even though they were formerly wooden, instead of stone and brick). The facades present a number of sculptured signboards, such as bells, helmets, sheaves of wheat and cauldrons.
Contrary to other squares in Arras, you cannot park above but beneath the square.
Cathedral
by Helga67
The Cathedral was founded in 667 on La Madeleine Hill where Saint Vaast used to pray, and was entirely rebuilt in the 18th century.
Nowadays, the cathedral looks a bit neglected. I don't know whether the inside is worth seeing because the cathedral is only open for tourists in the afternoon from 2 p.m. and we were there at 1 p.m. :-(
