is it possible to fly from calais to nice? or driving is the only way to go?
Closest airport with flights to Nice is Lille - 99 km from Calais.
You can go by train. http://www.voyages-sncf.com/
You could consider the train. The fastest connection is just under 8 hours (from Calais to Nice). Itinerary: Train from Calais to Paris Nord. Change to Paris Lyon, then directly on to Nice. Price (a misc. date in March): 86.10 euro.
Or even better: Train to Lille, and from there direct train (no change needed) to Nice...

The SNCF website is not the best place to plan train trips in France. I always use the DB planner (www.bahn.de). Once I know what trains I want to take I book them on the SCNF site...
I just tried the SNCF website out of curiosity and I immediately found these options for a typical day:

The connection time in Lille is very generous - the two stations are no more than 5 minutes walk apart but it is the only train for nearly two hours.
Overall that's around 800 miles in less than ten hours including the prolonged stop in Lille.
It's actually quicker via Calais Frethun and Paris

but of course you have to get out to the station at Calais-Frethun first and across Paris!

An enormous bunker houses a V1 and a V2 amonst other exhibits. A very well laid out museum with every explanation in English, Dutch and French. Headphones are also available.
Clever models show how the bombs were constructed and assembled here, and there are clear explanations on all aspects of the war.
For most people coming from Britain, Calais is the destination port in France. Ferries run several times a day from Dover to Calais, and the Channel Tunnel will transport you under the water too.
We go to France, either Calais or Boulogne, two or three times a year to stock up on wine, beer, cider, cheese, paté, washing powder and all other goods which are considerably cheaper in France than they are in the UK.
We also take the opportunity to sample some of the local cuisine, I adore French food!
