The main town is quite compact with many shops and restaurants. Because it is so compact, it is also very busy. We experienced some minor hostility towards the English, but I'm sure this was just an isolated incident. The driving we encountered was abysmal, however, and I escaped death on more than one occasion. Not sure if it was a deliberate attempt on my life though ;)
I am trying very hard to build up my pages and tips to benefit other travellers. You have arrived at one I have not had a chance to devote my time to yet.

Calais is a very beautiful and clean town, the first time I've been there I came from Dover, England, by Hover, a trip you should try, then, I've visited some other times in different seasons and I loved it. Everytime I've been there I've stayed at Metropol Hotel, a nice and affordable hotel near the train station, which is very pratical, spacially if you are not using a car on your trip.
