what is the least expensive way to get to paris from calais, any recommendations for inexpensive hostels?
also same question from london to dover.
Re: calais, france
I take it between Dover and Calais you would be taking the P&O ferry as a footpassenger, but in that case I have to say the cheapest way from London to Paris is by National Express coach, including the crossing, usually by Eurotunnel.
There must also be coaches from London to Dover (google National Express), which will be cheaper than the train, but from Calais to Paris you would have to go by train. You have a choice between Eurostar/TGV (€42, 2-3h) and local trains, with is a whole range of prices, from €31 to €42, depending on which trains/connections you choose (and when you want to travel, because the cheaper PREMs tickets are only available some time in advance). To find all possibilities you may have to be able to search the French timetable because if you click the English button (bottom left), it may be TGV only: http://www.voyages-sncf.com/.

Models in uniforms, guns and ammunition, a small collection of tanks, mock-up of bunker rooms. Over 3000 objects in 10 rooms.
They also sell various military paraphernalia.
Outside you will see a K5 railway gun of 280mm caliber, caqpable of firing across to London! This is one of only two in existence, the other one is in the US.
Calais - passing through and there for the day!
"On a day trip to Calais"
A Finnish friend, Jani, was visiting me in London, and i had said how easy it was to get to France, even for the day. I checked flight and train prices and found these to be quite high - so we travelled by train to Dover to get the ferry across to Calais.
To my surpise we managed to get a seat on the hovercraft, sadly no longer in service. The cost was £6 return for each of us!
The picture is me in Calais after a day of walking.
I had previously been to Calais as a student. We had been on a European Study tour and had returned to the UK via Calais and the hovercraft.
We got lost in our minibus, and the staff stopped to check locations with French locals.
This picture shows the only view I remembered from this trip on the secod visit.
