Le Touquet
Le Touquet one of the most elegant holiday resorts of northern France is home to lots of boutiques and shops, not to mention many hotels and restaurants. The owner of the Paris newspaper, ‘Le Figaro’, created the resort in 1876. Then this was a no-man's-land of low dunes, and forest - part of a hunting estate. It became known as "Paris by the sea", and strict building regulations encouraged the most talented architects to create imaginative and innovative developments.
Popular with the British, it took on the name of Le Touquet Paris-Plage in 1912 and slowly turned itself into a year-round attraction with a good range of hotels, casinos, and expensive villas that are spaced out amid acres of woodland, offering every sport imaginable, particularly golf.
