Life on an Industrial Estate
Feb 07 and with a return visit to Lens for Utd v Lille for a much more important game this time, we couldnt get a hotel in the town centre and had to settle for the Lensotel in the Commercial Centre for 2 nights. Ok having stayed in countless Premiere Class, Mr Bed, Formula 1 hotels in France I knew what to expect - stuck in the middle of an industrial estate on the edge of town and the Lensotel didnt disappoint. Good news is that there is a Macdonalds close by but the really bad news is that unlike all the other towns and cities, Lens is no tourist trap and consequently after the pubs close in the Town centre there were no taxi's to get you back. Pissed up and lost its a long haul back!
Funny thing - my mate and my son got lost, picked up by some Arab guy, but they couldnt remember the name of the Hotel!!!! (LENS - OTEL for gods sake!!!) he threw them out after driving round for nearly an hour before they were picked up by the local gendarmarie whilst walking on the slip road of the Autoroute and kindly escorted back
