Parking at Lille Garde de Euroep, TGV?
by catje1977
Hi guys
We will leave from Lille to Marseille on the TGV.
We will drive our car to LIlle.
What is the best way to park near the station and what does it cost for a week?
(already afraid of the answer...)
greetings from Holland
Carina

The station (GARE) Lille-Europe is on Bd. de Leeds in the centre of town, if you want to park nearby the Vinci parking garage "Gare Lille-Europe" costs €20 a day, don't know if there is a weekly rate. For other possibilities see http://www.lilletourism.com/parking_in_lille-1-0-50-gb.html.
Travel Tips for Lille
Just wander!
by sue_stone
Lille has a compact old town which is fabulous to wander around.
All the main sights are close by and easily accessible on foot.
So toss aside the stilettos (not good on the cobblestones!!) and take a walk around soaking up the beautiful city of Lille!
Another commercial centre
by Mahieu about Les Tanneurs
Also close to the city centre, you can find the commercial centre Les Tanneurs. Smaller than Euralille, but nice as well. Here you can find Monoprix, clothes, jewelry, gifts, Fnac ( a huge book and multimedia store), ...This commercial centre is more or less combined (via Fnac) with another shopping centre: Galérie Grand Place, right on the market square.
I especially liked the decoration on the wall, as you can see in this picture.
Smoke Free!
by ranger49 about La Voute
This small estaminet style restaurant is in a lane just off Grand Place and we came across it on our first night when we were not only attracted by the Menu but also by the No Smoking Sign.
It is worth noting here that France is in the process of implementing a ban on smoking in all public places but some establishments have introduced it in advance of the 2008 deadline.
Typical French/Flemish food like waterzoi and potjevleish is served here; we enjoyed the Regional Menu at 19.50 euros . Servings are substantial and most dishes came with a generous side salad.
My husband said his beef stew was one of the best and my rabbit casserole was delicious. From the Carte we sampled a rack of lamb - so good it could have been Welsh! and salmon in a cheese sauce. Local cheeses like Maroilles and Vieux Lille were a revelation- the former is matured in brine and has a good flavour, the latter is pungently delicious. Good beers and wines are served at average prices.
Service was friendly and efficient and the place is very popular with locals. On busy nights you need to go early or make a reservation. We both enjoyed all the meals we had here so it is difficult to pick a favourite!
I am going instead to select the cheeses which we were introduced to - local, delicious and we had never tasted them before.
So if you like cheese when in northern France look out for Maroilles and Vieux Lille.
Place du Général de Gaulle
by Mahieu
The Place du Général de Gaulle is shorty called Grand'Place, the market square of Lille. This place is the heart of Lille and is full of history with the old stock exchange, the theatre, beautiful Flemish facades, cafés and a big fountain in the middle. During summer, lots of people sit on the bench of the fountain to read, to watch people go by or simply to do nothing.
Vielle Bourse
by dejavu2gb
Vielle Bourse, meaing Old Stock Exchange was build in 1652 and is one of the most impressive buildings in Lille.
Note the intricate details in the facade of the building, its really gorgeous.
The building is known to be made of of 24 small houses featuring an interior courtyard.
