Someone out there looking for a flatmate?

by Kakapo2

The daughter of my best friend (25y) is looking for people in Lille who would rent her a room for 6.5 to 8 months, from the coming October. She will be at the university and study French, so a place in a student flat would be perfect.

Hi there,

I'm in exactly the same predicament as your friend's duaghter and moving out to Lille on the 1st October. Would she perhaps consider teaming up to make the whole experience that bit less daunting?

(Me: I'm 27 and currently live and work in London as a translator and also intend to study out there).

Drop me an email if you think she would be interested,

Kind regards,

Lisa

Travel Tips for Lille

Lille Tip

by funkymama

Sea, rock and soil are the vital ingredients that make up the diverse landscapes of the Cote d’Opale.
The sea is the dominant factor and from Wissant in the east to Ambleteuse to the west a succession of fishing villages and seaside resorts provide continuous interest for the visitor. The area between Caps Blanc Nez and Gris Nez is especially interesting and best visited on foot, on horseback or by bicycle.

Trainstation

Not only the new station Lille Europe is worth seeing, also the old station Lille Flandres is wonderful. Most trains from Belgium and the North of France arrive here. It is only 10 minutes walking from Lille Europe, next to the large shopping mall and close to the city center. The metro has a stop under the station.

La Petite Cour

by Oana_bic about La Petite Cour

Right in the heart of Vieux Lille, le thats a lovely summer spot for traditional local cuisine. Some of the best:
- terrine de foie gras de canard maison
- tourte du Vieux Lille (maroilles, lardons, poireaux)
- tranche de bries fondues
- carbonnade flamande,
- mousse au chocolat blanc et noir, tarte tatin

Lille Zoo

Located in the grounds of the Citadelle, the zoo is Lille's most popular attraction with 1.2 million visitors annually. The Zoo is free and houses about 400 animals representing 80 different species: monkeys, zebras, panthers, rare birds. See my Travelogue for more pictures.

Parc Loisirs de la Citadelle

by grayfo

The park was originally named the Bois de Boulogne, allegedly because the locals wanted a park to rival that of the same name in Paris. Encircled by the Deûle canal, the park itself encircles the Citadel, a pentagon-shaped citadel of the city wall built around 1668. The park is the largest expanse of park land in Lille (125 hectares). This place was very popular with joggers and we were amazed to watch a heron catching fish that seemed oblivious to the mad people running pass in the mid-day sun. Within the Bois de Boulogne is a free zoo (see tip) and next to this is the Cub Corner, a fun fair for children which is open daily from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
