Me & wife stayed at the Mercure Lille Opera (formerly Royal Hotel - there's still a sign with that name at main entrance). Opera is exactly where the hotel is - right behind Opera and Grand Place (the main square), c. 5mins from Lille Flanders train station, and 10mins walk from Lille Europe (the Eurostar station).
Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel nice & tidy. Booked it in advance for 55Euros - so brilliant price as well. Room was small and simple, with a TV, minbar, etc. No real view, but no complaints for the price. I understand you can "upgrade" to a larger room with a great view - but we didn't do that.
Breakfast was an extra €13.50 per person. We didn't order it, rather stopped at the fantastic Paul's (2 of them within 2mins of the hotel). But it definitely looked good!
Would definitely stay there again - hard to get the full package (good hotel, great location, and price!)
