wow what a bargin

We had planned a week-end shopping trip to Lille working on a budget ( we did not want to eat into our shopping money !). We booked 3 rooms 2 x twin + 1 x double. At a total cost of just £96.00 (Euro 135.00) for all three rooms. The hotel is right in the middle of Lille in a quiet street 2 minutes walk from the main station and the eurostar station.

The hotel is basic put me in mind of student accomodation. There is a reception desk manned 24 hours , checking in took less that five minutes. ( It has taken us up to 30 minutes to check in at some 4 & 5 star hotels in the past ). In each of our rooms there were beds for 3 people. 2 single beds or double bed all metal framed, with third bed a bunk bed up across the other 2. The rooms had a small table, stool and a small wall mounted t.v. no telephone or tea making facilities. The sheets were clean & fresh. The bathroom was small, put me in mind of an airlicraft or train bathroom, but it was clean (very clean I have seen a lot worse) and there were towels and liquid soap provided. The shower was hot and powerful. The beds were comfortable. The decor was plain white walls, There are no clothes storage facilites but there are hangers provided on a hanging rail that is part of the bunk bed it is perfectly adequate.

Breakfast is provided in the dining room you pay Euro 4.50 for an eat as much as you want buffett which again was suprisingly good. We borrowed a hairdrier from reception at no extra charge.

Unique Quality: Slap bang in the middle of Lille round the corner from the main stations. Surrounded by good resturants and bars but not noisy.Very close to the shops. The hotel does not have a car park of it's own but parking meters outside the front door, only problem is they do not allow you to pay more than an hour at a time. Parking is free between 12.30 & 2.00pm (lunch time - only the French !!!!) and after 6.30pm also all day Sunday. We were advised for longer stay parking there are many underground carparks not to far away were you can leave your car for your entire stay. you can walk to every thing from this hotel.

We are women in our 50's and have travelled to cities all over europe and stayed in hotels of varying standards we normally choose a 3 or 4 star . We expected little from our accomodation, well it was only euro 45 per room ( not per person ) per night but were all pleasantly suprised and comfortable.
The hotel should be viewed as some where clean & safe to sleep don't expect frills and luxury you are not paying for those, and is perfectly adequate for a one or two night stay I would not hesitate to return to this hotel or recommend it to a friend. This group have hotels all over France and we are investigating where else we can spend a budget week-end.
