Are you off to the railway agency? :) It is half an hour by train from Lille's Flandres station.

Lille it's a little more difficult to reach than Brussels. Is there any option/railway from Brussels to Valenciennes?

Yes certainly, it just involves a change in Lille :) Or possibly Douai depending on departure time (then from Lille Europe rather than Lille Flandres). Check the times at www.bahn.de ("international guests" for English).
