Domaine de CABRIERES: Treat yourself with a night in a castle! (2)
As I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, as the price/quality ratio is so good, I add a second tip. . . :)
The immediate surroundings of the hotel are decorated with flowers of course, and also old agricultural tools, like this grape press you can see on picture 1; agricultural tools? Euh, this thing here (picture 2), is probably not for use on wheat fields. . . .
Back in the room (picture 3) with view over the valley, and in the lobby (picture 4), sober nice décor.
Ah! I wrote about playing chess in the previous tip; next morning, the pieces had been placed back. . . . . . (picture 5).
I was late, I would have enjoyed staying longer here, but I did not intend to stay here at the beginning of the previous day; the Cévennes catch you, in some way. . . . .

Domaine de Cabrieres: Treat yourself with a night in a castle!
Few hundreds metres uphill, outside the village of St Jean du Gard, the Chateau de Cabrieres offers a nice look out over the village and the Gardon Valley; this castle, built in the 18th century on ruins of an old 12th century castle, is surrounded by a 30 hectares slightly landscaped park where a walk in the fresh morning atmosphere is not the least pleasure you can experience there; it is incredibly quiet and your night will not be disturbed by any traffic noise. . . . .
Chateau, well a small chateau, but a nice chateau (picture 1), with less than 20 rooms, each room different, and when you have the luck to have choice, visit the rooms with the owner or an employee, make your choice! I had the sun in the morning, wonderful wake-up (picture 2); visit also the big meeting rooms (the hotel is a venue for seminars, weddings. . . ), with some nice furniture. What I liked the most was the view on the valley (picture 3), the dinner for its excellent food (souris d’agneau, (lambs leg “mouse”), local cheese, crème brûlée) and wine, taken in a glass-walled veranda in the garden (picture 4). The morning walk in the park, with a big variety of trees (picture 5) was also very enjoyable.
There is a bit of “modern” (internet, WIFI access. . . ) technology in that hotel, but you can also enjoy tennis courts, a swimming pool, organisation of trips around, and also a giant chess game I enjoyed with another solitary customer, with a few beers.
Well, a very nice place to stay for a night or for a “base camp” for exploring the Cévennes.

Mas Lou Abeilhs: Adorable B & B near St Germain de Calberte
I had the pleasure to discover this wonderful bed and breakfast last time I went. It is located in a restaured hamlet/farm inside the Parc des Cévennes, about 6 km from St Germain de Calberte. The owners buit everything themselves and did a great job. The rooms are individual little houses, you have your own private terraces, great views. It costs 45 euros for a room for 2 persons, including taxes. It is isolated at the end of a dirt road. You take breakfast on a beautiful terrace with a great view. Just amazing!
The lady makes diner (very good!) if you ask in advance (17 euros including tax and tip and beverage).

Camping, Bed and Breakfasts, gites...
There are numerous choices in terms of accomodations in C?vennes. My favorite type is a restaured old house or farm which the owners transformed in guesthouses or B&B. Below are good websites (all part of http://causses-cevennes.com/).
