Very Good Value and Location
We stayed at the Hotel Continental in Angers for 3 nights in July 2011, as a home base for touring the western Loire, and found it to be an exceptional value. It is central to the "old town", and easy walking distance to the Chateau, University, restaurants, and old and new shops. It is only a few minutes drive from the AutoRoute on a connecting expressway, however, 2 cautions: getting to the location by car is tricky (even with a Garmon GPS) due to the maze of narrow and 1-way streets; and there appears to be a photo-enforcement unit in use on the access highway, since a noticeable flash went off as we zoomed into town late one night. (I expect to receive a "souvenir" from the gendarmerie by mail.)
Unique Quality: Value, value, value! For a clean, well serviced, pleasant room of adequate size, at 63 eu/double this was a tremendous find, compared to centre-ville accomodations in Normandy and Paris. The continental breakfast buffet is more than adequate, and at below average cost for hotel breakfast; although we opted to pick up juice, coffee, and croisants "on the street" 2 of the 3 mornings. Our room was on the side facing away from the street, and it was most pleasant to have an openable window overlooking a small courtyard. The management was exceedingly friendly, and we got the impression that it is owned or operated by a young family which takes pride in their hospitality. (Dining Note: Our hosts referred us to a traditional french restaurant: La Ferme' located in the cul-de-sac next to the old church. The food was excellent and reasonably priced.)

Good value hotel
Good value for money. Rooms are not that big and no fridge, but that's typical to French hotel rooms.
