Getting to Cholet

by SallyM

We're planning a weekend in Cholet next month. The options for getting there from the UK seem to be either train via Angers, or flying via Nantes. Since flying seems to be much cheaper, can anyone advise on the best way to get from Nantes airport to Cholet (other than hiring a car)?

Many thanks

Go by train and/or bus from Nantes.

Look at

http://www.bahn.com/i/view/overseas/en/index.shtml

for train/bus times and details in English. Journey takes from one hour (bus).

Look at

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-train/horaires

for train times, details and fares in French. Easy to work out..don't use the English translation because it will take you to Raileurope, with commission on fares and not listing all departures.

One-way fare from 11 euro.

From Nantes airport you can get a shuttle or ordinary bus to the railway station:

I shall be in the Nantes area myself, visiting friends, in about four weeks time, so have been looking at the similar questions on how to get around and about..

Cholet is just under an hour by train from Nantes, but a close look at the timetable reveals that many of the trains are in fact buses. This is fairly common on French branch lines. They only run trains at peak hours, buses suffice for the few passengers at other times.

The current timetable shows just four real trains from Nantes to Cholet on weekdays and Saturdays, two on Sundays and Holidays. Add to that an assortment of buses pretending they are trains and there are seven to ten journeys weekdays and Saturdays, four on Sundays and holidays. Full timetable downloadable and printable is on this page

These are local trains, so there is no point in buying tickets in advance.

Cholet has three buses a day (not Sundays) from Angers but none from Nantes.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, hit post too soon

Cholet has a fairly reasonable train service from Angers also

http://telechargement.ter-sncf.com/Images/Pays_De_La_Loire/Tridion/20_tcm-28-20939_20100709_1129.pdf

and these are all real trains!

which probably explains whey there are only three buses.

Thanks, everyone. I look forward to the bus that thinks it's a train!
