Zoo de Doue
"Set in the most wonderful natural surroundings...."
We visited Zoo de Doue during the summer of 2007 and again in the summer of 2008. As a family who don't really 'do' zoo's (we see enough animals in Wales!) we decided to visit on the recommendation of a friend and were pleasantly surprised.
I think the main reason we enjoyed it so much (so much so that we returned the following year) was because it was all so natural. Nothing seemed forced, it was all very in keeping with the animals natural habitat and, well, it just felt 'right' somehow.
"Enjoy a meal in the restaurant."
When we visited in 2007 the weather was not great and the forecast was for rain, so we didn't bother taking a picnic - instead opted to eat at the restaurant.
Set in a beautiful location overlooking the giraffe enclosure, we enjoyed an excellent meal (with a nice price tag attached mind you...). When the weather is unfavourable, you can eat indoors, which is equally as pleasant.
"Take plenty of water, sunscreen & a hat..."
Especially during the months of July & August because it can get VERY hot...and unlike this little chap/lady, you can't roll in the mud to cool down. Well, I suppose you could....
