Stop at Malicorne-sur-Sarthe
One of the advantages of renting a car as a mode of independent travel, is that it allows you to explore sites not visited by other tourists, especially if you are not in a hurry. When we plan, we always meticulously examine the local Guide Michelin and old Blue Guides. These often clue us to places to stop for a little enroute (sometimes with 5-10 minute detours). Such stops are often the best experience of the day! (for example see our Tips on the Danse Macabe outside of Chartres). Malicorne-sur-Sarthe is such an example (it is gratifying that another VT experience already exists). We have read some of Madame de Sevigne gossipy insights and appreciate her taste. It is easy to see why she could relax here at this 17C chateau and its setting. (You cannot enter the chateau; we did not visit the pottery or church in town). The town (pop. less than 2K) is less than 26 km SE of Le Mans and was on our way to our overnight at the Chateau de Plessis in La Jaille-Yvon. (see our Tips on it in Pays de la Loire or Angers)
