Day Trips from Nantes

by KarolAnne

Any good suggestions for day trips in a car (for one or two days) outside of Nantes? We like anything -- rural and walking once we get there is always nice though. We would be there in March '09

I would surely travel to Britanny, at least to Lorient/the menhirs of Carnac/Quiberon/Belle Ile, north to St. Malo and Mont St. Michel, south to La Rochelle/Ile de Ré, and to the east surely to one or more castles of the Loire.

Vannes bay/Morbihan Gulf (exceptional, lots of superb islands, lots of walks)

or/and

Lac de Guerlédan (central Brittany on the Nantes-Brest canal, water sports, forests, gorges, etc. top walking area)

You could easily visit both over 2 days.

Travel Tips for Nantes

Nantes has many good...

Nantes has many good restaurants and terraces, but I don't have a picture of it. This picture was made at Ile de Noirmoutier, an island near Nantes. The island lays in front of the west coast of France partly in the Atlantic Ocean. Crocque Madame or Crocque Monsieur. It's a kind of toasted sandwhich with cheese, ham, tomatoes and ketchup. The Crocque Madame has some more vegetables with it then the Crocque Monsieur. Also very tasty are baguettes with veggies, ham and cheese yum yum!

Nantes is a lovely old city with a charming castle, a small church, a big cathedral and lots of other great monuments. You should really pay a visit to it, because also the streets and parcs are really lovable.

On the picture: The fountain in the old city with a statue of La Reine Anne (Queen Anne) on it.
