Is the sea deep enough to swim in at fort-mahon-plage?
I would have thought so, it is a proper sea. Just how tall are you?
The Indian Ocean it ain't, so take along your wetsuit.
The water is actually very shallow and you should have to walk a few hundred meters (depending excatly where) before getting enough to swim but you definitely can swimm. The one thing you might not be able to do is to dive!
Hmm, I know tides are strong in that area, but I'm sure I've seen people windsurf and swim there, admittedly it was a good while back (memory going downhill faster than Bode Miller). Oh well, maybe there was a seaside midgets' convention that day.
Depends very much on the tide. If low tide, you have to go out a fair way, at high tide it is better, but watch the speed of the tide. It can move fast!
If you're keen on walking along the beach, an interesting thing to do is to go and see the mussel farms on the beach between Fort Mahon Plage and Quand Plage.
You might see the farmers on the beach with their tractors harvesting the mussels.
There are hundreds of these 'mussel poles' along the beach.
This is the perfect place to go if you'd like to try sand yachting! I've never seen such an expanse of beach before - it goes on for miles.
My husband and son had a try at sand yachting and loved it - don't let language be a barrier, as neither of them speak french!
