Chateau De la Motte: Chambre d'hote in an amazing chateau

What a fantastic place Chateau De La Motte is. Located in the village of Usseau just a few minutes from Chatellerault and the A10 toll road, this historic castle is a treat to stay in. It is close to Poitiers and the Futuroscope theme park as well as numerous Chateaux, historic towns and cities, etc.

My son and I had a fantastic stay in this beatiful Chateau. The owners, Marie-Andrée and Jean-Marie Bardin offered us an incredibly warm welcome and offered expert advice on places to visit. They were more than willing to share their stories of life in such an amazing house, which clearly is their passion. They made my six year old son more than welcome and he was really sad to leave, as was I.

Unique Quality: All guest rooms are furnished in period style but are very comfortable too. Our room offered great views across the village and the Poitou Charentes countryside from huge windows. All rooms are en-suite and each is very different.

There is a huge drawing room with comfortable sofas, antique furnishings and a large library of books on a range of subjects to browse through as well as games to keep adults and kids amused. Pre-dinner drinks are also served in here. The dining room is most impressive with a huge dining table, roaring log fires and an ambience that is hard to match anywhere. For breakfast expect hot chocolate, fresh croissants and home made jams. Dinner comprises a starter, main course, cheese board, dessert, wine and aperitif as well as coffee and excellent conversation with the host Jean-Marie and his lovely wife Marie-Andrée. Fresh produce from the Chateau's gardens is used extensively and Marie-Andrée is an accomplished chef having owned a restaurant in Canada.

The Chateau also run courses in stone carving (Marie-Andrée carved the impressive fireplace in the dining room) and also in calligraphy and medieval illumination.

The grounds of the Chateau are available for guests to amble around, and there are plenty of cellars, walled gardens and battlements to explore. In summer there is also a swimming pool. As well as rooms, two self contained gites are available as well as a function room.
