Travel Tips for Cognac

A great start to any holiday.(2003)

by Steve-H

Although Ebeon is wonderfully isolated and I would surprised to see another page besides mine on VT it isn`t too far from some really great places like Cognac.
Don`t forget Ebeon is in the heart of the countryside. Sunflowers, melons, maize and of course grapes are grown all over this region. Aged Otard Cognac, tons and tons of it, no wonder i look happy. This is how it is stored for up to 25 years before it is bottled. The spirit is over proof when it is casked and maturation in a barrel allows some of the spirit to evaporate (the angels share) and the flavour to develop.
At Remy Martin I learned that they lose 2% of their spirit every year to the 'Angels Share' that equates to 6000 barrels!
Go to Cognac, do a distillery tour, you'll soon know all about it.

COGNAC

"The homeland of cognac"

I was in cognac with a day trip to wal aroud the city as well as to see castles related with cognac producing story. Besides Lionel told I can get interesting excursions to see how cognac is producing as well as to taste drink and to buy it as a souvenir to my friends.
The settlements was founded here in Roman times.
In XII-XVI centuries the town was a part of Angouleme kingdom and the center of salt industry. In the end of XV century Cognac was a residence for the king Francois I. In the middle of XVII century the town became a part of France as well as cognac drink producing traditions were begun.

One of the main impressions about the town was hot weather and even my camera felt it and made only such shots cause of problem with optic :-( That happened in the midday and I couldn't get well-made shots of the castles.
