Located a bit souther to Vieux port, find in Port des minimes area, some nice beach. Plus it used to house apartments with specific style (grey- brown wooden lumbers, cubic shapes...).
However, if you go to Chýtelaillon, beach is nice and empty as well. This time, nice bungalows, houses and apartments in pastel colours.. along the waterside. Chatelaillon is 10 km south of La Rochelle. It is a quaint beach resort, with a small but elegant casino. With restaurants, shops and those little pastel villas.
No huge ugly buildings like those you would find in Belgian coast. Thank God, they could preserve original construction plan. swimwear + sunglasses + sun lotion + towels (?)
