The Beautiful parks
by Toyin
La Rochelle have one of the best parks and gardens..being close to the sea, the ambience is slightly different from what you experience in Paris with exception of Bois de Boulogne. Yes, the parks. Very neat and never congested. It is good for couples on a honey moon.
Sailing school
by Norali
I guess that if you visit La Rochelle for one week, you won't be interested in taking up sailing- boating lessons.
In the contrary, if you fancy boating but never had the opportunity to do it, and that you are moving in this nice area, La Rochelle has a school "Ecole de Voile Rochelaise" where to learn about this activity.
I know the school from my cousin having taken sailing classes there in her teenhood. Quite cool, it seems! Training is not only for kids, it is designed for adults as well. Check website to know more (French only).
La Rochelle means "Arcades".

"Hôtel de ville"
The arches of the main building.
"Hôtel de ville"
idem
"Arches in shopping streets"
Less refined than those at l'Hôtel de ville, arches are landmarks of La Rochelle.
They shelter many shos that sell everything, from delicatessen (artisanal fruit pastes, chocolate, sweets...) to pottery, marine trinkets, clothing, stationery.
"In main pedestrian streets..."
you're likely to spot those kind of buildings. White, flaky, like eaten by salt. No, it's not dirty, walls in the whole La Rochelle are all like that.
I find it charming, actually.
"Gargoyle on top"
Enlarge to see the gargoyle on top. When walking in those streets, don't forget to look up in the air... you will find some interesting details... plus, it's clean enough to not walk in some dog dejections.
