If the Romanesque has attracted you in Poitiers and you have a car and a little time, there are two visits you can make in a morning or afternoon and also find a nice place for lunch. They are both east on N151. The farthest, St.-Savin is 21 miles. Chauvigny is half-way there. We will have Tips under each of those places. St.-Savin is one of the earliest examples of (church) fresco painting after the Dark Ages and is quite exceptional.
The second of the treasure are the carved choir stalls from the beginning of the 13C, said to be the oldest in France. They are quite handsome without being ornate. There are entertaining carved figures in the open corners outside the arch of each seat. They are essentially in two alternating sets: one consists of a variety of symbolic scenes, mascarons or fanciful figures. The other shows a young man coyly holding two crowns (except only one in the end figures). We could not find anything on the meaning of this display.
so here is my home town of which I don't know so much since I spent my 3 or 4 first years in the country side and then grew up in paris...
but I kept spending my holidays in the country side of poitiers during almost 15 years...
