Use the SNCF official website - I have done a test run and can't come up with a place called Les Arc. However, there is a Les Arcs Draguign, so I've used that. There is a 07.07, arriving 09.49 with a change in Marseille, and the next train after that is 09.52 arriving 11.39, with a change in Marseille. You can book your tickets on line four months in advance. Or you can go to the station and buy a ticket. Or from any station in France. Hope this helps.

Could you please give us the complete name of 'les arcs' or the zip code or the closest big town ?
There are several places names in France starting with les Arcs

Les Arcs Draguignan Provence

Re: Rail Travel in Provence

You have trains from Les Arcs-Draguignan to Aix-en-Provence centre at 6h08, 7h07, 8h06, 9h52
You have to chage at Marseille-Saint Charles
The tranfer takes from 2h30 to 3h30

Or faster trains to Aix en Provence TGV (1h25, 18km from Aix en Provence) - and a bus to Aix en Provence (the first one is at 10h46)

see www.voyages-sncf.com

You buy your ticket at the railway station (you can even buy it the same day)

The trains mentioned above between Les Arcs Draguinan and Aix -en-Provence Centre (changing at Marseille) are local TER trains. Seats for these trains are non-reserveable, so there is no point whatsoever in purchasing in advance. The one-way fare is €24,10 whether you buy a ticket on the day or a month in advance.

However, seats on TGV trains from Marseille to Aix-en-Provence TGV can be reserved, indeed at peak times should be, to ensure you can travel on the train you prefer. But, if you do decide to 'save time' by travelling to Aix-en-Provence TGV bear in mind that the TGV station is some 10 miles/18km from the town itself. You must factor in the additional time and cost required to get to the centre, if indeed that is where you are headed.

I hope that helps.

Gosh, and I thought the railway station in Cambridge (UK) was out of the way enough!).......

Travel Tips for Aix-en-Provence

see the center,cours mirabeau...

by fabrice

see the center, cours mirabeau and cours sextius;they are famous because they used to be the best places to meet students 30 years ago, when aix was the only university in the region. That is why I was born in aix(my both parents were students) when I was 5 years old,I remember more or less the baby-sitter who came home to stay with me;since,I hope that I will have a baby-sitter when I am very very old(I'll pick up one in my VT girlfriendslist)

Use Aix as a base

by rickyvilla81

Being so well located, Aix is a perfect place to base yourself if you wish to explore Provence. Transport (ie, bus) links are good to most towns and cities in the region, but it is best to hire a car, explore the Luberon (including Gordes - pictured), go to old Avignon, Van Gogh's Arles, Marseille, Cannes, St.Tropez, the Gorges du Verdon, the Var, even as far as sunny Nice. Provence is great - see it from Aix.

Cassis is a small seaside...

by AndreasK

Cassis is a small seaside resort, snuggled at the foot of a tall cliff called Cap Canaille. With its picturesque fishing port, lined with cafes and restaurants, Cassis is a wonderful place for a walk. The city, built with its streets going up and down, has lovely old quarters with an elegant Hotel de Ville on a shady square, where the inhabitants came to cool off and play Petanque on summer nights. Lombard Promenade offers a good view ot the Grande Mer beach all the way to the cove of Courton. The route des Cretes, high above the sea, is impressive and offers a great panorama of the area. This road links Cassis to La Ciotat.

Closer to the Cours

by rickyvilla81 about Chez Antoine

The Italians can really cook, better than the French without a doubt. And at Chez Antoine you get a real taste of Italy. It's just off the Cours Mirabeau, and on a warm summer evening it's worth sitting outside. The food is served relatively quickly for such a popular place and is well presented. There is a large choice on the menu - which is a sign I'm going to like the place, for sure - and I'd recommend the Gnocchi di Trevi, which is a nice gnocchi dish served with mussels, calamari and gambas. It tasted fabulous!

We saw Avignon while driving...

by kwanou

We saw Avignon while driving past, but we especially saved it for out next visit. We want to take enough time to visit the great old 'walled city' with it's famous bridge and the most important gothic castle of Europe: the 'Castle of the Popes'.
