Vintage Clothing

by luther93

Any reccomendations on vintage clothing shops in Nice,Cannes,or in any of the other towns in Provence. Or any good recommendations on boutiques. Not looking for "Haute Couture" by any means, but a good place for clothing that can only be found in Provence!

I'd be surprised if you find vintage clothing easily in Aix, Nice or Cannes. The style of shops tend to either be haute couture such as Dior, Channel, Prada etc, or normal high street retailers suct as Celio, H&M, Camaieu etc...
Not sure what you mean by 'clothing that can onlu be found in Provence'.

Thanks for the help. I should have been more specific in my query. I am looking for recommendations on independent boutiques that are local to Nice, Cannes, and other towns in the area. Prada, Channel, Gucci, and the other high fashion houses are all over including about a mile from my house! I was hoping to find some good ideas of the "Provence local" variety. Thanks everyone!

Hi Luther

In all the places you name, you will find independent shops. There are also a few small local cothes chains like 'Blanc du Nil' (sells only white clothes made from high quality Egyptian cotton).

I'm not able to name or place all the relevant shops but you will find that the average French high street has quite a few independant shops alongside the chains so just stroll around & see what's on offer!

If you are not only after clothes, there are also a lot of shops selling tablecoths, napkins, placemats and sometimes hankerchief etc... with typical provencal patterns of bright colours, generally yellow or sometimes yellow/blue or green depicting olives, suns, hay, etc... and that is typically local.
Have fun shopping.

Travel Tips for Aix-en-Provence

Mediterrennean Sea coast

by IngaA

Tha main reason of being so popular place. Beautiful sea with clean water, quite deep but calme, storms are rare there.
A lot of nice beaches, where it's possible to make boating, scuba diving, kayak, water ski, etc.

Take a trip to Marseille

by rickyvilla81

Take a trip to Marseille, the large seaport city that lies to the south of Aix. Shuttle Buses run from the Gare routiere every ten minutes, taking just under half an hour, at a cost of 4.10 euros. The Old Port is great, taste the legendary bouillabaisse, and shop in the Canebiere...

you can travel to manosque,a very nice little city 50 kms to the north. The whole area has the nostalgia of the provençal writers, like marcel pagnol or jean giono;it is possible to visit jean giono's house in manosque;I spent my very early childhood in manosque,in the house of a spanish woman, anita, who was my baby-sitter

French food for decent price.

by skydivefred about Chez Maxime

Very often, the problem with French food restaurants is that they are horribly expensive. This one gives you some really good French cuisine at an affordable'll find quite a variety of dishes too.
Unlike the other restaurant I mentionned, the atmosphere is slightly more "snobbish"...

The Cathedrale St.Sauveur

by rickyvilla81

In the north of the town is the golden and surprising cathedral. Make your way through crowds of American students, who take courses at the American school opposite, and you will find architecture featuring just about every major period from the fifth to the eighteenth centuries. It is a calm wonder inside, and it's huge colourful walls are lit by subtle, colourful windows. It is worth coming here just before Christmas, when there are choral services for the English and American communities. Just below, in "La Cave", there are regular social gatherings celebrating the various cultures of the world, represented by foreign students in Aix. This takes place every Tuesday.
