The Old Town
by rickyvilla81
Leave the Cours Mirabeau and the rotonde for a while, and walk up into the old town, towards the Hotel de Ville. You'll pass many little squares and expensive clothes shops as the narrow streets wind around - you will probably get lost, but that's a good thing. then past the leafy Place Richelme you will find yourself in the small grandeur of the Place de l'Hotel de Ville (pictured), dominated by the clocktower and the large column topped by a globe. A nice place to stop for a Fanta, before strolling up to the Cathedrale St.Sauveur.
Good Marketing
by englishchris
Aix has a lot of markets - we were here for just five days, and we came across three different ones.
There is the daily food market in Place Richelm. There was a large arts and crafts one on the Cours Mirabeau on Teusday, and an assorted one around the SW of the outskirts on Wednesday.
All of them pack up at midday.
Maquillage at SEPHORA
by ForestqueenNYC about Sephora
Before going to Aix, I had never heard of SEPHORA. I loved going in there to pass the time even if I did go down the street to Monoprix where I could buy some of same brands, such as Bourjois. I was like a kid in a candy store.
It is not only for women, there are a lot of wonderful men's products here too. Cosmetics and perfumes.
If you like Chanel products, buy Bourjois label. It is made in the same factory.
rue des Verreries
by rickyvilla81 about le Marsa
Around rue des Verreries - mostly known for its pubs and bars such as the Red Clover and Le Manoir, there are several restaurants which are good places to have lunch (when the crowds of foreign student drinkers aren't descending upon the local alleys for a pee, as in the evening).
Le Marsa is one I went to. I don't eat North African food all that often, which is a shame because it is so good. The portions here are huge, really filling - especially the chicken couscous. They are quite cheap too - you can get a formule for 10 Euros of main and dessert. I had this lovely chocolate mousse, mmmm!
It's a spacious restaurant with a lot of places inside, although you are likely to want to sit outside.
L’Eglise de la Madeleine, Place des Precheurs
by rwlittle
M's notes from this shot say "trees against L’Eglise de la Madeleine, @ Place des Precheurs". We did not go inside, it wasn't open at the time. We did see this type of tree throughout Aix, and elsewhere.
