Street markets
by anne_h
Check out the markets--a lot of it is the same Provencal-pattern stuff you find in tourist shops, but there are unique finds. At one market I went to there was a young woman selling hundreds of beautiful woven shawls. She was really friendly and found a shawl that went with my coloring. Or you might find cool antique somewhere.

Vasarely Museum
by skydivefred
99% of the activities, museums, fairs, etc... are located in the historical town centre.
Nevertheless, a quiet, peaceful and rather spectacular place is the Vasarely Foundation.
This huge building shelters 5 m high works of art.
Vasarely is an artist who played with geometrical form and optical effects. Not so visited a place you can sit for some time admiring and letting your sight being fooled.
nice low key restaurant frequented by students
by kimigirl about La Crep' Sautiere
We just wanted a small dinner and all the crepe stands were closed when we came across this charming restaurant. It is located in a sixteenth century building/cave, and was run by a very nice family. The waitress spoke English well, as I was tired and my French was getting very bad. It might not be a bad idea to bring a dictionary as a lot of the words and ingredients in these crepes were not part of the words I still remembered from 20 years ago when I lived in Aix. Still, the food was great, the wine was nice, and the atmosphere great. A nice, low key last meal in Aix.
Fountains
by JanPeter74
Aix is the city of fountains. You find them anywhere. From the large one on the “Rotonde” – the central roundabout, to some very artistic ones along the Cours de Mirabeau to small ones on one of the many squares.
