    Cheap and convenient

    by

The hotel is located just 2 Kilometers from Avignon Town Centre. Possibility to visit the Palais des Papes, museums, exhibitions, festivals and take long walks. It is situated just 30 minutes from the Fontaine de Vaucluse, Gordes and all the other fabulous sights of Provence.
They have 38 rooms. In my opinion it's the cheapest way to stay for a night in France.

Unique Quality: The room can be equipped with twin beds. Room amenities: Shower, TV, Air Conditioning, Wake Up Service/Alarm Clock, Toilet, Satellite TV.

Train from Avignon to Paris

by geojean

Im catching a train from Avignon to CDG(airport) in Paris. I want to pick up a hotel shuttle there (my hotel is the Holiday Inn Express in Airport row) I figured this would be the easiest way to get to hotel. Does anyone know if there is a train that goes directly from Avignon to the Charles De Gaulle Airport. THX :)

There are many trains between Avignon and CDG, best you go to bahn.de, the site of the German railways (better than the French site) and search for timetables, indicating
From:Avignon TGV
To: Aeroport Paris-Charles de Gaulle TGV
and the date/time you want to travel. A direct train takes roughly 3 hours for this stretch.

That was quick! Thank you so much : )

It looks like there might be one train that goes straight through
Avignon TGV to Aeroport Paris-Charles de Gaulle TGV - it leaves at 9:17 and gets in at 12:41

Here is a great site - be sure to choose the Avignon TGV station in Avignon

http://plannerint.b-rail.be/ is a nice site, but it is acutally perfectly interchangable with http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/
Both use the same software and the same database, only the look is different...

Remember that you need to make advance reservations for the TGV.
I've done this trip years ago, when the TGV was still quite new. That was amazing.

Thank you, I will do that : )

Travel Tips for Avignon

Dancing on the bridge (Pont St. Benezet)

by egonwegh

It has been said over and over again - I'll say it again: people dance on this bridge. And indeed, why not?

By the way, the construction of this bridge started in 1177 and was undertaken by St. Benezet, who was "divinely inspired to build the bridge" (as the Encyclopaedia Britannica puts it)

Enjoy the scenery

This garden borders the path up the hill to the Parc Rocher des Doms. I love gardening and am always amazed and gratified to see both private and public places landscaped to add to the beauty of a trip. Avignon has a lot of gardens throughout and strolling through the streets can be a lovely experience.

Palais des Papes

by rwlittle

The papal palace is large. It was designed as a home for the papal court, as well as a defensible fortress. The lavish lifestyles of the popes in this time period left behind many items of luxury, but these items were looted or destroyed over the centuries, and are long gone.

Visit the Popes' Palace

by aliante1981

Rome was considered a pretty unsafe place in those day, apparently, so the Popes transferred (temporarily, it must be stressed) their residence to Avignon and built there what was considered to be 'the safest and the most beautiful palace of that time', or at least the local legend has it this way. I can not be sure, of course, but the place seems safe enough to live in:))) And it's beautiful as well. So, the legend probably has it right:)) It is very well preserved, and the architecture is quite spectacular, too. You can visit the interiors and see for yourselves how it was to live in that place (with a guided tour, if you wish so).

la Cathedrale Notre-Dame-des-Doms

We snapped this photograph in the evening. The locals light up the papal palace and this cathedral in the night-time. The cathedral is situated near the papal palace, and is accessible in the daytime.
