Strolling the Streets at Night
by cjg1
There was nothing better than taking an evening stroll after dinner through the Place de l'horloge. Nightime brings the people out an about and is a great people watching time. We enjoyed outr evening walks and enjoying some after dinner ice cream. The evening weather was considerably cooler which was a nice break from the daytime heat.

Avoid, Avoid, AVOID the tourist shops
Yes, it is hardly ever the tourist souvenir shops I find terribly exciting. And the things they sell there cost a bomb! What I would humbly recommend is that you head straight to the supermarkets, farmer's markets, museum boutiques, drug stores and specialty shops instead. These are the places that will offer creative treasure-trove of goodies. Really.
When I find a shopping spot I really like, the address, telephone and fax number is noted in my journal... er, digital diary, I mean. This way, I can return on my next trip, re-order specialties by mail if necessary and I can share my best finds with girlfriends when they go off traveling.
And finally, strike when the iron is hot!!
What do I mean? Well, many times I would buy 2 or 3 of the same item that really catches my fancy. When I go back home to Singapore, these treasured items will be stored inside my gift drawer ready for special occasions and holiday gift-giving!! Your friends will definitely LOVE you for being so resourceful and brilliant. :-D

Street markets. You'll find them in almost any city, mainly wednesday and saturday. Might I suggest the one in Vienne and Uzes. There, you'll have everything, from fruits and veggies, spices, artcraft, jewelry to sandwich and clothes. And you'll meet the people of the region...
The Famous Bridge of Avignon
by cjg1
This bridge was the inspiration of Saint Bénézet; a local shepard boy who claims angels visited him and told him to build the bridge. The bridge once spaned the banks of the Rhone river. Now only the Avignon side of the bridge is intact. The Avignon side of the bridge has a chapel and the grave of Saint Bénézet.
There is also a popular song "Sur le pont d'Avignon" about the bridge that is popular with children of the town.

A good link to all the festivals in Avignon, all year round.
I experienced one, the music festival in August. We simply walked round and looked and listened here and there. There were also music bands all over town all day long and well into the night.
