great position, helpful staff

5th floor rooms smallish, but have balcony with deck chair, outside shower (there's a full bathroom inside) and great views over the rooftops. up here, traffic noise is minimal (beware the 1st floor rooms if you are noise sensitive).
helpful staff - we moved from 1st to 5th floor, and they even found the bar of chocolate we had left in the minibar fridge and transferred it to the new room. spotlessly clean.
buffet breakfast (if not included) pricy at 13 euros but good, solid meal with plenty of choice.
position is BRILLIANT, within the ancient walls, right on the main square, plenty of restaurants nearby, all the cultural facilities within walking distance.
Great location but hard to find by car.

Better review if air conditioning was working! Very noisey with windows open. Took over an hour to find it by car and then only with street by street directions from the desk clerk on our cell phone. All that being said, it is an excellent location with friendly staff and smallish but adequate rooms.
A few steps (200m) from the Palais des Papes

The hotel is conveniently located at the the "Place de l'horloge", a beautiful plaza with street cafes and restaurants. The hotel is a good starting point to explore the old town of Avignon, all the tourist attractions are within walking distance, so is the "Rue de la République", the city's shopping lane.
Slightly overprized you get a small, clean, calm and cosy room. The staff was very helpful and speaks english. Breakfast was minimalistic (could be improved), but alright!
Great Location, Friendly Staff

I stayed here recently with a friend for the weekend. Arrived Friday night on the TGV from Paris and caught the navette (shuttle bus) to the town centre. The navette drops you at the southern end of the town, and the hotel is an easy 10min walk from there (just off the central square). We had a triple room which was very spacious (would have been fine for 3 people) and clean and quiet. I would stay here again, and would recommend to anyone....it was good value for money.
Perfect for two sisters on their own!

My sister and I, two lively just-over-60's from South Africa, travelled without our husbands, so chose hotels, etc. carefully. The Hotel Place de l'Horloge was just fine for us. It's situated a few paces from the Place de l'Horloge, which suited us just fine. The hotel had pleasant and helpful staff, which was appreciated because not all French hotel staff are friendly. The accommodation was fine, the mattresses nice, and we appreciated the two pillows on each bed instead of one thin one, which could be the norm in cheaper hotels.
Hotel de l"Horloge is a typical, ordinary hotel but we were very comfortable, had no problems with hot water for example, and we loved their pleasant breakfast room. For two women who did not want to walk miles at night for a good meal, it was nice to so centrally located, with many restaurants including a fine dining establishment close by.
It can be noisy -- cars, people, motorbikes -- outside at night, which can't be helped because it's so close to the Place. It's not the fault of the hotel. We love Avignon and we had a pleasant two-night stay at this hotel. We can recommend it for those who cannot afford luxury hotels yet want a comfortable experience. We will definitely go there again, if at all possible to do another trip! Special thanks to their smiling staff who were always helpful with advice, and so good with organising taxis!
Fab location but mediocre value for money

We stayed in Avignon for 2 nights as part of our tour of the south of France. On arrival (be warned, there is NOWHERE to stop and unload luggage, let alone anywhere to park outside the hotel) I was shown a double room which was, to put it mildly, seedy. I begged for an upgrade ( I probably would have fled, but we'd already paid with Expedia) and for an extra 30euros a night was given a premium room with terrace. Please note that the terrace had 6 foot high walls, two broken chairs and a weed in a pot. The room itself was pleasant and well furnished, if a little on the small side. The bathroom was spacious but no shower curtain (as in so many french hotels). There was also no restaurant or bar in the hotel and the lift was permanently out of order ( we were on the 4th floor!).
The location is superb - you step out of the door onto the main square and literally a few steps to the Palais des Papes. Even so, I'd look elsewhere next time I visited. Can I also just recommend the small marquee restaurant on the square - Au Petit Nice - basic and simple food, at low prices, but consistently excellent value.
