Transporting bicycles

by Glkenn

Ten of us will be arriving at Marseille airport with bicycles and wanting to get to and from Avignon where we will start and end our cycle trip. What is the best way to do this?

Re: Transporting bicycles

I looked at the French train rules which say that bicycles should be disassembled into a 120x90 cm package. It looks like you can then just take them with you on the train.

Travel Tips for Avignon

stroll along Place de...

by Krystynn

stroll along Place de L'Horloge. Place de l'Horloge is a lovely square in front of Hôtel de Ville where you can find many terrace cafés dotting both sides of the area and an interesting looking 'Belle Epoque' carrousel found at the top end of the long square. Both streets at the top end of the Place d'Horloge lead to the Place du Palais and the Palace of the Popes

Swans

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Swans in the garden of Pope's Palace attracted my attention after very intense excursion day. I had only five minutes to admire these beautiful birds. It was quite enough to have a rest and continue strolling around Avignon.

I imagined how Popes were watching swans while walking the garden. It seemed to me as if centuries came back...

Palais de Papes

by so_alex

Place du Palais, was built during the 14th century as a fortified palace fo the pontifical court. It is mainly of interest because of the dramatic events that took place here, since the undecorated stone halls, though impressive, are nearly empty except for occasional art exhibits.

Silent witness

by agarcia

I can’t clearly understand why I found gargoyles so photogenic. Maybe it’s simply because I find fascinating the intention with which those grotesques figures where sculpted. Daemons, savage beasts, skeletons… Everything seemed ok in order to remind the parishioners what a scary place Hell could be, or just because they supposedly scared away the “real” daemons.

That’s why I get really surprised by discovering this little Gargoyle in the Palais des Papes towers… maybe it’s an effect of the corrosion of the centuries, but this sculpture looked more to me like a kitten than like a blood thirsty daemon. Or maybe not: maybe is just that, even in the Gargoyles world, there are classes and classes ;-)

Drama Productions

by painterdave

During the summer Avignon has a lot of drama productions. These troupes round up customers by having a parade through the streets of Avignon. All of a sudden you will hear music, drumming and then people in costumes parade down the street handing out flyers and telling people about their performance that evening.
Included here are several shots of the costumes seen.
