Bollène is a city of 15,000 inhabitants that stands at a cross road. It is in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region but very close to Rhône-Alpes region and Languedoc-Roussillon region.
The location was already inhabited during prehistory. And because of being at a cros road, it was often invaded : Wisigoths, Burgondes, Ostrogoths, Sarazin and others invaded it, one after the other.
Since the XIIIth and until the French Revolution in 1789, it was part of the popes’ States.
