Cannes Film Festival
by WanderingFinn
We hadn't planned our trip to Nice according to the schedule of the world famous Cannes Fílm Festival, we didn't even know what time of the year it is held! Again, like with Formula 1, we seemed to be lucky.
When making the day-trip to Cannes we noticed the crowd and the rush on the car routes and started to wonder...until we saw all the advertisements. We had arrived in the middle of this happening full of world famous celebrities. This was around May 18th.
We managed to park the car far enough, in a big public parking lot, and walked the rest. Soon they'd start to rehearse Channel +'s interviews with e.g. Pamela Anderson and some of the top French actors.
We managed to get seats from a terrace of a restaurant in a best possible place, next to the hotel where the celebrities seemed to come out and walk in. It was great to watch those sports cars and limousines too. And not to mention the very important work of the civil dressed security staff. OK the drinks we took were not the cheapest...but worth the sun and the hassle and international environment. We didn't see much of anything, though, but it was OK.
It happened to be the 60th Cannes Film Festival, so they had an anniversary too. I bought myself a T-shirt as a memory.
Marine Park 30 minutes from Cannes
by Cathy24
When we got off our cruise we passed a little tourist information hut at the pier and saw a flyer for the Marinepark. It is situated in Biot - four stops on the train and only took 30 minutes to get to as it is 5 minutes from the train station in Biot to the park by foot. This is not only a marine park but also has crazy golf, a water park with loads of slides and also a wild west park so you could easily spend a day there. Plus on the other side of the road from the train station there is a nice little beach.
The marinepark cost €35 (doesnt include adminission into the other parks) which i thought was a bit steep and unfortunately we only had about 2 hours to spend there and we weren't in time for any of the whale, dolphin or sealion shows so if you are going make sure you have about 4 or 5 hours to spend there.
There was an underwater tunnel where you could see sharks and turtles, a penguin enclosure, sealion enclosure, piranhas and dolphin pool where even if you couldnt see a show you could still watch them playing. Best of all you can go and watch the killer whales in the big pools on the tiered seating where the shows are held so even though initially we were disappointed to miss the shows and didnt think we would see the whales, we were able to spend ages watching them play (and try to attack a seagull - lol).
It was a really nice day and despite the cost it is worth going to if you are in Cannes for a few days. We didnt go to the water park, etc but they looked really good. It only costs about €2 on the train to get there and there are return trains to Cannes very frequently.
Cannes, originaly of Roman descent
by Pavlik_NL
The Romans started a castle on top of the hill, where now old Cannes is looking over the new world full of glitter and glamour. "Castrum Canois" the Romans named the town that settled around their fortifications and a fishermen's harbour soon was created in the bay. The hill, Mont Chevallier" offered the Romans a good defendable place along their traderoutes (by sea and over land) between Italy and Spain.
I Was A Gawker At The Cannes Film Festival
by ForestqueenNYC
Although I like movies, I am not nuts about movie stars. But I had gone to Cannes to meet a friend of mine, a journalist covering the film festival. While he was off doing his job, I waited just like a kid to get a glimpse of these celebs. These are the ones that I saw. Nadia is at least 6'2. She was the hottest model during that era. Mary Tyler Moore arrived alone and Elton with his boyfriend.
