Arriving by Cruise Ship
by TravelJo
Is it better to train it to Monoco, or rent a car? I only have one day. Also does anyone know where in Cannes the ships dock?

They don't. You must tender into port unless you have a private yacht under 70 feet. The docks that tenders pull into are about 3 blocks to the center of town.

In Cannes, cruise ships dock in the old Port opposite le Souquet - the old town
Rent a car to go to Monaco? Why? Walk ten minutes to Cannes SNCF and board any of the trains bound for Ventimiglia, for Monaco - put you there within 45 minutes. You will spend longer than that looking for somewhere to park in Monaco.

Andrew has a different take than I do on the port area of Cannes. I arrived via Carnival Liberty last year in the area off of the boat harbor in front of the Palis des Festivals et des Congres. To get ashore, one must take a tender into the dock area, and as stated, about 3 blocks from the shopping street, La Croisette.

Experience is best teacher - I'd seen Eascruise moored at the port and wrongly assumed they walk the gangplank - yes, decanted via a tender, quite right. Thanks for the correction. (note to self: shut up when you don't know what youre talking about NiceLife!)
Cheers

Relax, Andrew. Nobody's perfect. I just about rented a villa in Cannes overlooking the port and La Croissette during the Cannes Film Festival but decided it was too far to the main drag and too expensive. Then I found out that the costs would have been taken care of and that an exotic car came with the package. I opted for a hotel room. My loss.
Travel Tips for Cannes
I loved the gardens all around South France
by rachel_sun
Cannes has many festival on throughout the year.Cannes Film Festival is on in May.
Midem is on January.
MIPIM is on March
Tax Free World Exhibition is on in Oct.Cannes is a very rich and business phrosphrus place. When Lord Brougham gave Cannes a health resort reputation the rich and famous have been coming eversince. If you take a boat trip to St.Marguertie, you can visit the prison where the Man in the Iron Mask was held for 11 years.
When looking for a nice place to eat or drink, always check the menu and prices first before entering to see if its within your budget. If you are on a tight budget, do not fear as there are plenty of nice little bakeries around where you can buy fresh cakes and french sticks and pizza slices and lots of other tasty snacks.
Palais des Festival et des Congress
by Pavlik_NL
Here the filmfestival takes place, but also numerous other congresses and festivals go year'round in and around this relatively ugly building. The architect obviously was not inspired to make the block fit into the already excisting environment and even aluminated at night it still is not a wonderful sight for eyes. The festivals however always have a certain style: mondain and often ... quite extravagant. During our visit a luxery festival took place and exclusive yaughts and cars were exposed for public.
Looking good in Cannes
by NiceLife
On the Riviera looking good is very important whatever your age, and even more important in the glamourous resorts of Cannes and St Tropez. Splash out and dress up. Leave those touristy shorts, sandals and socks, and rucksack back in the hotel.
These posy couples unfortunately will have their style licence endorsed, for the ladies have neither dark glasses on or raised up on their foreheads. Tsk Tsk.
Cannes

Cannes is one of the best places i have visited to on my travels to the south of France.
It's got such great character, it's a great place to go and lose yourself in. The boats in the harbour are absurd, the hotels along the promende are for the elite.
However Cannes makes everyone feel exceptionally welcome.
I really enjoyed my stay there.
