 | Cannes Carlton Inter-Continental Cannes Reviews | Tips 1 - 5 of 5 | | This is the Carlton Intercontinental - supposedly one of the most well-photographed buildings in the world. The domes on the top were inspired by the breasts of a French 19th century hooker. I know this because it's in the hotel's official literature, although they use the kinder "courtesan." Only in France would this information be considered worthy of passing on. On a related note, after Monte Carlo I may never have to see another Belle Epoque building again. Ever.
This is considered one of the five-star "palaces" in Cannes, and even when it's not festival time I guarantee a room here is expensive. If you can't afford to stay here, have a drink in the bar or on the patio and people watch on the Croisette. BTW, chances are the the tacky movie ad eyesores are present only during the festival. After watching the movie "French Kiss", I wanted to have lunch at the Carlton. Service was professional, quick, and attentive. We sampled wine, cheese, tarts, and was very satisfied. The beach in front of the hotel is modest in comparison to more expansive beaches found at Daytona, Hilton Head, etc., but it was adequate for what it was intended, i.e. people watching. (The ladies often are topless-wear glasses or they will know you are a tourist) The hotel is a Grand Old Dame, and epitomizes Cannes. Everything you would expect of a hotel of this calibre.
Food is outstanding. Wine list is adequate, cheese selections are regional, and excellent. Views are breathtaking Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageDirections: Croissette |

Built in 1911, the Carlton Hotel is a trademark of Riviera glamour and an enduring symbol of the Film Festival. Though some top stars have deserted the hotel in recent years, the Carlton remains the first choice for festival purists. Leave a Comment |
