La Tour d'Aigues
This is a tiny, but picturesque stop in the road on what could be a lovely driving tour of the Luberon: The Luberon Drive, as I've referred to it elsewhere in my tips. I spent a great Friday morning doing this particualr drive, winding through stepp mountain roads and across fields covered in vineyards, lavender and wheat. Extremely beautiful countryside!
This town's main draw if the Chateau de la Tour d"Aigues. The chateau was restored in the 1500's in a Rennaissance style just in time for a visit by none other than Catherin de Medici! Many years later it was burned to the ground and has been slowly restored since. Today, the most beauitufl entrance gate still stands.
There is also a tiny, but great, museum in town: The Musee des Faiences. It holds a world-class collection of pottery from the 1700's and should not be missed!
Finally, while visiting the chateau, you can't miss the fabulous musical walk, where your footsteps will ring around the old stone walls of the chateau -- children love it!
