Carlton Hotel
The Carlton hotel is somehow a symbol of Cannes. It's located in the heart of Cannes, on one of France most beautiful avenues, the famous La Croisette and only 800 metres away from the Palais des Festivals.

In Port arriving at 10 AM till 7 PM on 4/23/09. Thinking of taking a train to St. Paul de Vence. How far is it, how long a ride, what is the cost? Where do we go when we get there (St. Paul), and what transportation would be available? We heard it's beautiful. Would welcome suggestions and any pertinent info. Thanks!!
hi - there is no train to st paul de vence. from cannes, take the local train to Cagnes sur mer and from there the bus which takes about fifteen minutes or so to the town walls. there is also a bus from nice, but the former is easier. there are several bus stops in cagnes sur mer - make sure you get to the right one ( not nearest the train station as i recall ). the truth is that a rental car is the easiest way to get there and the roads are good.
st paul is of course overrun with tourists with good reason. a delightful hill city. do not miss the Maeght Foundation art museum.
for what its worth our favorite hill village was tourette sur loup which is also served only by busses and harder to get to as well.
All the buses passing through Cagnes stop at the "Gare Routier", where you can pick up the bus for St Paul. Its five to ten minutes walk from the Cagnes Gare SNCF train station

When in Cannes you must do what all others do. I know, it's actually quite stupid, but when a French couple offers you to make a picture after we did the same for them, take your partner by the arm and descend from the stairs that the stars use. The "Palais des festival et des congress" is a quite ugly building at the start of the "Boulevard de la Croisette". Here the anual filmfestival takes place and gathers all the stars from the white screen for a week in Cannes.
The other Casino that has a special place in the Cannes gambling world is the Palm Beach casino at the other end of the Boulevard de la Croisette, as seen from the Casino near the Palais of Festival and Congresses.
It just happened to be near where I was posted to work in the South of France, why I went to Cannes. I found the place very intimidating for someone who was not so trendy and sexy, most of all intimidating for someone who did'nt have a lot of money. All my friend and I did was to sit in one of those cafes with sitting areas outside, with an oversized umbrellas (parasols) ordered an extra large cone of multi scoop haagen daz ice cream and be sick to look at all those slim and perfectly tanned bodies skating and walking pass, while we lick the melting cream. Boy! I was glad to see some ladies, old and wrinkly, wearing shorts, outlines of the bluish varicous clearly visible, but looking at all those carats that were decorating them, they were allowed to be there.
