Does anyone know this area?

by lisanik

I am trying to decide which of the rentals I've found are beter for me because they are in an area more accessible to markets, restaurants, train, etc without renting a car. I am looking at one place in "Basse Californie" district and one on the Boulevard du Midi. Please help me!!! I don't want to have to rent a car for the entire motnh. If you know either of these areas, please clue me in as to walking, public transport, etc...

Cheers!
Lisa

RE: Does anyone know this area?

by NiceLife

Boulevard du Midi is the name of the sea front that stretches from Cannes old port to Cannes la Bocca due west - its a two km long street - you could be in for a brisk but flat walk to get to Cannes La Croisette and the central area

Basse Califiornie is lower end of way up walkies inland above Cannes, very posh but beginning to get out of town to the rich villas of Super Cannes. Again depends where exactly but its also west of the main town, but up hill

Give us a house number and maybe we can do better with an opinion.

Cheers

Travel Tips for Cannes

A street performer

by Sakura_Kobe

Cannes had mild weather even in winter. I came across a street performer along the seaside esplanade. He/She stood very still like a bronze statue.( in fact, silver statue) We sat down on a bench near him/her and looked blankly at the beautiful blue sea for a while.

WALKING UP TO LE SUQUET

by travelgourmet

One of the nicest places to visit in Cannes where you can see the locals in shops, stores, and sitting at outdoor cafes is in the old town on the hill, Le Suquet. Taking the winding streets up the hill requires a little effort but is an ideal way to exercise the wonderful tastes of Cannes that you devoured at a bustling restaurant near the harbor before you decide to walk to the top of Le Suquet.

Once up on rue du Suquet, stop at one of the outdoor cafes and sip a coffee or a glass of wine while enjoying the sight of the easy stroll of passersby. Maybe a look inside a shop or two. It makes you feel like a local and you might get a better take on Cannes away from the mega yachts at the harbor. The view is one not to miss from the top looking down.

Step back in time in the castle and the museum

by Pavlik_NL

"Musee de la Castre" is a museum that shows the ancient history of Cannes and is situated in the castle on top of Mont Chevalier. The castle was created there by the munks of the "Iles de Lerin" (islands) to have a watchful eye over the harbour. In it a collection of archeological findings and etnografical stuff that two worldtravellers brought to Cannes. In the tower (Tour du Suquet) are roulating photografic expositions. from the top one has a splendid view over the bay and the "Iles de Lerins" (see my "Ile-Saint-Honorat" page)

A night at the Palm Beach resort...

by Maillekeukeul

I know Cannes for years, but I've never quite been into it, as the city is more flashy than it is interesting or nice to live in ... It's a bit of a big resort, and, as a whole, I would prefer to be a rich tourist in Cannes than a lone traveler without money... Anyway, for the wedding of a cousin of mine, I was lucky to enjoy the terrace of the Palm Beach resort (that is also a casino) with all my family... And it was just for us !!!
