Dressing up - whatever your age
Cannois women cling to glamour, whatever their age, and I admire them for it. Instead of London slack sportswear blob-bird, its the big hair, the make up, the bag, the high hell shoes, too short skirt, the style - she makes an effort!. And looks great, granny or not.
Euro-blob-ocracy - keep it.
Pizza and Italian cuisine by Vieux Port
Serving pizza and other Italian dishes in Cannes for decades, La Pizza (Cresci) is an institution. It is a direct competitor of Vesuvio's at the other end of la Croisette. La Pizza is located at the corner of le Vieux Port, at the foothill of the Suquet hill.
We definitely did not stay here, but I had to take a picture of this because it is the Carlton, and I really liked how they decorated it with the movie posters from the films represented at the festival.
Cannes is best known for the Cannes Festival which is hold in the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. But Cannes is also a luxury summer resort on the Côte d’Azur, with fine sand beaches and many stars hotels.
The Model Boyz
".......and it just keeps getting better and better"
I am not exaggerating when I describe the party atmosphere in Cannes during the Film Festival. All of the hotels are throwing the biggest and the best parties. Each one sponsoring one of the headlining films. Along the beach area, there are elegant white tents set up for more exclusive parties, and these face the dozens of yachts that are probably hosts to the MOST exclusive parties!
After we left our pursuit for "Justin," the girls and I manage to find a decent place to mingle for the evening. It was a smaller venue at one of the major hotels, but tons of fun! We danced all night.........before we knew it, it was 3am!
Knowing that the trains stop at midnight, we figured a cab would be the easiest way to get back to our hotel......in Nice...........20 minutes away.
We leave the party and step onto the sidewalk to hail a cab. Before we could even blow a whistle, a charming Frenchman comes to our rescue. "You ladies look lost" he says. We explain that we just want to get back to the hotel. He explains to us that it would be mad to catch a cab at that hour.........and it would cost us $200 USD to get us there!! He suggests we wait a couple more hours until the trains start running.........So, what shall we do to kill time???? Party, of course!
The charming Frenchman, as it turns out, became our "Guardian Angel" for the rest of the trip. Always looking out for us crazy girls from San Francisco! Faridj from Marseilles. That was him. We ended hanging out with him and his "entourage" which consisted of an interesting cast of characters........actors, fashion designers, music executives........all there for the same reason. Party!
It's 6am, the clubs are still going, but the girls and I aren't. We are tired, hungry, and just want to lay our heads down. Faridj escorts us outside to find a cafe before we head for the trains. Once we step foot onto the sidewalk. Another charming foreigner makes his introduction.........and it just keeps getting better and better.......
"The Friendly Norwegian"
A friendly Norwegian gentleman from Milano introduces himself to our group, and asks where we are headed. We tell him that we're hungry. Of course there are no cafes yet open at that hour (but it's Cannes!). So he invites us to dine at his hotel.
Can this place get any friendlier????
So we proceed to dine at 6am......with our Guardian Angel, Faridj from Marseilles, and this curious chap who just "picked us up" off the street, and speaks 8 languages, none of which are French!
"The Majestic Boyz"
As it turns out, our Norwegian friend from Milano is staying in Cannes with a group of 20 guys. All male models from Milan. All there for promotional parties, auditions, and just to look damn good!
This charming fella is Rex.....one of the many fellow Model Boys who stumbled into our hotel room party with news that he just scored an audition.
He had been the center of attention with the Paparazzi on one of the YACHT parties and was escorted by a famous Film Producer. We could be witnesses to his first "big break!"
The next night he promised to escort US to the yacht parties!
3 women let loose in Cannes........partying with Supermodels from Milan? So now you know how our 2 night stay turned into 4 nights!
Will somebody please wake me when this is all over???
"Vin.....is that really YOU????"
Along the film festival party path, I made friends with a "Vin Diesel" lookalike!! (Yowza!!!)
At first glance I really thought it was the Vin Man himself. Not a bad clone, eh ladies????
"Where to next, Ladies?"
After an incredible night of club-hopping, we never did make it back to our hotel in Nice! We meet a charming Frenchman from Marseilles, a sociable Norwegian from Milano, and 20 of his gorgeous Model friends!
We dine on smoked salmon sandwiches, French Wine......and a strong cup of coffee......all at 7am!!!!
We dine, we laugh, we even prank call their fellow friends in Australia! Although we just met these charming Euro men, we felt as if we had been long lost friends!
Before departing, we make plans for ROUND 2 of this entertaining repartee.....Where shall we go the next night ladies? Marseilles? Or perhaps one of the yacht gatherings??
"It's 9am....but WHO CARES??"
After dancing all night....and no sleep, we still feel as fresh as a brand new morning!
How does the makeup stay on, ladies??
"We Will Meet Again, Gentleman....in MILANO!"
After a whirlwind 4 nights in Le Cote d'Azur, the Model Boyz convince us that we MUST visit them in Milano.
We exchange info and the girls and I make our promise to visit them in the fashion capital of Europe.
I mean....who can say "No" to THIS????
