Cannes

Cannes is quite a small town, but it is a town of many faces.
Indeed, the centre itself presents three very different landscapes - the prestigious beach promenade, La Croisette, the lively town centre overflowing with boutiques, and the picturesque old port and Suquet hill which make up the old town.
Great place for people watching

Right on the Croisette, lovely view of the beach. Patio is a great place for people watching and celebrity spotting. The risotto! The risotto! The risotto! As someone said, it's a heart attack on a plate, but soooo good. I had it with crawfish. This restaurant was next to the Variety Village, where I worked during the festival, so I went often. They have daily selections, all recommended. Had oysters with buttered bread - delicious. Desserts are standard, not amazing. Avoid the green bean salad.
Views of Cannes

For the best views of Cannes make your way up to the Notre Dame de l' Esperance, which sits on hill overlooking the town. The best time to take in the views are mid to late afternoon as anytime before that the sun will be in your eyes making it hard to see. Plus your pictures will turn out dark, just like mine!
Glitzy? no way!

I stopped in Cannes for a couple of hours on my drive along the coast from Nice to Marseille.
Personally i didnt see what the fuss was about - i thought it was a bit of a hole!!!!
The beach wasnt great, the buildings nothing special, the shops were obviously expensive.
Only stayed a couple of hours - the best bit was the drive further down on the way to st tropez, that was something special!
