Best Views

The views from the village of Eze are worth the trip alone! There are numerous vantage points from in and around the village where you can enjoy stunning views up and down the Cote d'Azur. The best views are to be had from the summit of the hill, from the Jardin Exotique and Castle Ruins but to enjoy these views you must pay a rather hefty €5 entrance fee.
People arriving by bus will cross the viaduct to the foot of the hill on which the walled village is built. Resist the temptation to head straight into the village but rather walk back along the viaduct to take in the view from the far side looking up at the village and fortress along with views out to sea and across the viaduct.
The eatern side of the village also gives great views towards Monaco and down towards the newer town of Eze 450 metres below the medieval village of Eze. Immediately upon entering the village through the main gate, you find yourself in a small courtyard. Take in the views from the wall out over the private gardens of one of the Eze Hotels and down the hillside towards the sea.
If your up to it the 40 - 45 minute hike down the hill to the town of EZe offers more great views up and down the coast and out to sea.

Is it possible to purchase property in Eze Village?
by TOPSHELFPUBCRAWLER
I have looked extensively on the net to find if property is sold in Eze Village. There are plenty of web sites offering property for sale in Eze, but I cannot find one where it is for sale in the actual perched village of Eze. Is is protected as a national landmark?

No it is not protected. There are two nomal ways to find out if something will be for sale. By local real estate agencies or by the town hall. The 3rd one is if you know somebody who know somebody.....

Thank you Michael.
Being from the area, would you be kind enough to forward the name of a reputable real estate firm? Thank you.

This sight can be useful - see from the classifieds there are people posting property search requests, and there are may other anglophone business connections

I imagine a little bijou apartment or village "house" comes up only rarely but I have seen more than a few doorbells with a variety if non-French couples names - German, Scandinavian and suchlike, so it must be possible.
Most immobilier specialise in their own local area, but the large ORPI chain has many in its network and is bound to have an agency which covers Eze Village. Our Agency was in Nice which won't help much.
The other experience we had in buying in Nice was that many property agencies were not interested in unless you were intending to spend a significant sum.
Its a somewhat unusual choice of location for a "home". Good luck.

Thank you Andre. I will look into your recommendations.

Eze: the castle and the town
by VeronicaG
The Phoenicians and the Romans both had a presence in Eze's past. A 12th century castle once sat atop a cliff overlooking the small town below. All that remains of the castle are its ruins, for it was demolished in the early 1700's.
As mentioned earlier, shops, restaurants and cafes are sprinkled about the narrow streets and pathways surrounding the point where the fortress once stood.
The Jardin Exotique can be found at the top, as well, and offers a spectacular view. There is an admission charge to this garden. We didn't have the time to see it when we visited.
The Eze Mountains undulate throughout the countryside, making a drive there quite appealing. All in all we thought a visit to Eze was a very scenic one.
great museum with modern art

Fundation Maeght is excellent and there are also great views of the sea below from some of the terraces where art is also displayed outdoors. Dining at Colombe d'Or's terrace and laughing with my best friends in the world.

Medieval Architecture
by VeronicaG
Just one glance at this arched passageway brings to mind ladies-in-waiting and daring Lords in their suits of armor!
The fact that the medieval village of Eze sits on a high cliff, makes it quite obvious that its location would have been perfect for viewing any 'hoards' headed towards the castle fortress.
Although it was somewhat of a climb to the top, there were terraced areas along the way on which to catch one's breath.
I think very little imagination is needed to see this as it was in the 12th century.
