Casa Honoré or Accor: practical, and or chic accommodations

by gwened

well the near the water you have the vieux port of Marseille lovely area, the Calanques, with great views, and another I like is Cassis, Bandol, and the little beach village of Sausset-les-Pins.
check the French hotel chain Accor
www.accorhotels.com and enter those cities for locations.
parking in those town is ok for garages, street parking might be difficult and might make you waste time but not impossible.
I park easy at fort saint jean by the quai de port after the hotel de ville.
www.viamichelin.com will help you guide you.

If you want a small boutique hotel in Marseille try the Casa Honoré, do not know in your budget I stay on company business. site http://www.casahonore.com/
Hope it helps

casa Honoré is sublime pamper at its best, with top of the line amenities and supplies, very intimite. The accor chain is world known for great service at great prices and conveniently located. French chain that is.

Hostellerie D'Abbye de la Celle: Another great house by Alain Ducasse

by roaming-mosh

Another delightful place in the collection of 'Maisons Alian Ducasse', the legendary chef. Great rooms, better in my opinion than the other Provencal house of Ducasse, the fantastic Bastide de Moustieres. we had a suit with a private garden. The food is of course fabulous, with local produce making the entire menu, which changes almost on a daily basis. The vegetable and herbs garden is famous in Ducasses's homes and this is no exception.
The old pool (very cool, but refreshingly so in the Provencal summer) is a picture of tranquility and Mediterranean colours. with the Loube hills overlooking and the rare vines vineyard just beyond the pool's wall, the only sound we heard for hours were the calls of the Collared Doves and the Abby's bells.. heaven.
The decor is a glourious depiction of local colour and style.
The gardens and the vineyards are simply amazing.
I can't recommend the hotel highly enough, especially for general 'foodies' but more so to lovers of Provencal food at its very best.

Great food. excellent wine list.
Very friendly service.

Camping Lou Badareu: A campground with a pool!

by King_Golo

Camping Lou Badareu must be something like an institution in the Provence: My aunt and uncle have gone there for 20 years! I was there in 1998 and again this year, and I liked it very much both times.
Located within walking distance from the very picturesque village of Cucuron, Lou Badareu is not only a campground, but rather a little holiday village. There are many things to do which is why it is so popular with families. There is a swimming-pool fed by a little creek with ice-cold water which is a wonderful way of cooling down on a hot summer day in Provence; there is a ping-pong room; a pizza van visits the campground twice (?) a week and sells very good pizza; and when we were there, there was even a circus for one day.
Moreover, the owners are nice and helpful, the grounds are open and wide so that you can enjoy camping without being crammed into the middle of two other tents, the vicinity is beautiful and Cucuron itself is home to a great restaurant (L'Horloge, see another tip) and a lovely market.

As mentioned above, but one should also not forget the low prices: You pay only 2 Euro for a tentsite plus 3,60 Euro per adult or 1,80 Euro per child. A car costs 1,90 Euro.

L'Aigle: A campground with a view

by King_Golo

L'Aigle is a very conveniently located campground if you plan to see the Gorges du Verdon. It's a friendly and clean place with lots of space between shady trees. If you want to pitch up a tent, choose a flat site - being on the terraces of a hill, not all of L'Aigle's tentsites are suitable.
The campground has got a little restaurant with an unbeatable view over Lac de Ste. Croix, the magnificent turquoise lake at the lower end of the Gorges du Verdon. Walking there will take some time (serpentine road!), but it's only a 10-minute ride by car. Halfway down and easily reachable by foot is Aiguines, a lovable little village. If you follow the road to the other direction, you'll reach the gigantic Gorges du Verdon in a few minutes.
We paid about 25 Euro for a tentsite without electricity, so its a little bit more expensive than other places.

Great view, helpful owners, nice place

Bed & Breakfast in Cavaillon: Enjoy a warm welcome at Mas Cassaireu d'Auseu

by Ina08

Loredana and Pascal, the owners of the Mas Cassaireu, go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The whole building has be lovingly remodeled and rebuilt by Pascal and each room has a different atmosphere and feel. The bathrooms are designed to be comfortable and are incredibly creative, with lots of colors, great tiling and a comfortable feel.

In the yard there is a huge tree with a table where you can sit, eat, drink and relax and a small hut has a fridge where you can store your food.

The big garden has a nice pool and the location is perfect: close enough to Cavaillon to get there by bicyle and far enough to be really idyllic.

Great wines provided by Pascal, who is an expert, table d'hôte (dinner hosted by the owners), freshly baked bread and home made preserves are just a few of the things to enjoy and remember.

Warm smiles, heartfelt welcome, true hosts: Loredana and Pascal make you feel at home.

The rooms have various sizes and are all comfortable with a double bed and ensuite bathrooms, a fridge with a selection of wines and champagne for you to sample and enjoy, a large garden with a lovely small pool and a wide lawn.

Breakfast is continental with a wide selection of homemade preserves, freshly baked bread and cakes every day.

About 30 km from Avigno by highway and close to a very nice area suitable for leisurely driving, hiking, trekking, bike and horse riding and rafting in Vaucluse, the Alpilles and the Camargue area.

La Fête en Provence: Haute Ville, Vaison la Romaine

by RockyDaniels

My wife and I stayed in this beautiful old collection of residences. The exterior is rabbit warren of passageways and stairs leading to rooms converted from old residences.

The interiors have been recently remodeled and are very very nice. Our "room" was three levels: entry stairway, main level (with a living room/sitting area, private patio, dining area with pocket kitchen) and loft (big bedroom/bathroom combination).

A short walk from the hotel is a lovely outdoor pool for the private use of hotel guests. It is nicely private and a very lovely pool area. We would highly recommend making some time to lounge about the pool.

A 10 to 15 minute walk from the hotel takes you into the modern city of Vaison la Romaine with its famous Roman ruins. Do get there with enough time to explore those ruins. We missed out and were limited to peeking into the grounds from the fences. What we saw made us regret not having the time to return.

Résidence Le Castelas: Aigueze Gem

by RockyDaniels

This gem is off the beaten path in the little cliff-side village of Aigueze within walking distance of St. Martin-d'Ardeche. My impression is that this is an area of Provence off the beaten path, known to the French and not widely advertised for the tourist set. In my opinion, it's well worth an out of the way side-trip to spend a few nights enjoying this hotel as well as the local scenery.

The "hotel" is an ancient complex of residences with perimeter walls being bedrock or remnants of a castle. Accommodations are apartments quite suitable for extended stays. Our "small" unit had a spacious bedroom, dining/sitting room, small kitchen, largish bathroom and private patio area.

My wife and I spent a week touring Provence and stayed in some exceptionally nice places. This was the best, most memorable and least expensive.

Inner courtyard with in ground pool, conference facilities, apartment accommodations rather than hotel rooms, exceptional character. Of the pictures uploaded with this tip, the one taken from below Aigueze shows Residence Le Castelas as the large building to the right/north of the tall village tower.

Note that parking is outside the village. This is true for all but the in-village residents. It's a 10 minute walk from the parking area to the hotel. You can drive up to the hotel to drop off luggage and the like. Unless you're used to driving down the narrow streets of a medieval village, I would recommend dropping the luggage in the main square of the village, parking, walking back to the luggage and then heading off to the hotel. Not real convenient but well worth it.

Paul Cezanne: Great small hotel in Aix-en-Provence

by samoca

Wonderful, wonderful staff, good room rates because of low season, great beds, terrific buffet breakfasts. A lovely complementary bottle of wine left for me with two glasses on my bed on the day of my birthday. Highly recommended!

Good location a few blocks to the Cours Mirabeau and the old town of Aix.

Camping Montmeuille: Campground Seclusion

by Samsoncatdj

We stayed at Camping Montmeuille in la Colle-sur-Loup (near Nice) for four nights. Being from New Zealand, we love getting into nature. We dont mind "roughing it" and we cant stand camping grounds that are busy, noisy and have nightclubs. Often when we are travelling, we are out all day, we eat all our meals out and we just return for the night. This means we dont need to pay extra for alot of facilities. In fact, as long as a place has hot showers, is cheap and quiet, then we are right at home.
Therefore, this little place was right up our alley.
This is a relatively small campground, away from the hustle and bustle of big towns. The sites are set in amongst the bush and this makes it quiet and peaceful.
The showers and facilities may be basic, but they are free and are completely sufficient.
The owners of the campground are very friendly, helpful and accommodating to meet your needs. You can park near you tentsite and if you are arriving back later at night there is an afterhours carpark to leave your car not far away.
Facilities available are hot showers, electricity, washing machine, telephone, bar/snacks, motorhome petrol station and caravan caretaking.
The best thing about this place is the price. We paid about €15 per night for the tent, car and two adults.

Peace and quiet in amongst natural surroundings.
Helpful, polite and accommodating owners.
A good base with close proximity to local towns and sights.
