Need an answer in the next 6 hours

by BobbyDaz

I am travelling from London to Nimes tomorrow morning and i need to find my way from Nimes Airport to Les Baux-De-Provence. I do not have a car and it will need to be public transport. Can some one please tell me the cheapest way to get here?

You can either travel non-stop from Nimes to Arles (about 35 minutes), or with a stop (and change of train) in Miramas from Nimes to Salon de Provence (1 to 2 hours). As far as I know, Les Baux de Provence has no railway station. Just get to Nimes main train station and ask the ticket office.

Bon Voyage :)

Mideval re-enactment

by rwlittle

We caught a re-enactment of mideval life whilst touring the citadel, presenting folks as if they were knights and ladies in waiting. In the photo, you can see a knight in exhibition, trying to pierce an apple whilst at gallop.

1964 in South France

"August 6, Thursday"

In 1964, I wrote to my mom: Today we visited Avignon, Arles, Les Baux, and Aix en Provance. We really had a rather good day altho the tours of the Pope's Palace etc. were exclusively in French and so not much of a success. Otherwise we had a good stay.

Les Baux: is an extremely picturesque village that is now more of a tourist site rather than actual living village.

The highlight has to be the 12th Century ancient ruins of a complete chateau / fortress community. These ruins are high atop the beauty of the cobblestone village and set in the surrounding Alpilles.

Close by we found the‘Caves of Serragan; which is an active wine vineyard, and we walked deep and darkly into a mountain cave with little lighting, to see the tasting and actual wine storage rooms. Yikes, these caves were a little too scary for me.

Les Baux-de-Provence is 29 km south of Avignon. Les Baux-de-Provence rests on a high spur of a rock mountain with a countryside of grapes and olives trees surrounding it. A 13th century castle and fortification jut out from a pinnacle of rock.

Part of the town is ancient stone houses that the local people live in and the other half is medieval ruins. In its glory the town had a population of 6,000 people.
