Metro pass
by shimin
Hi, I was using the rtm site and was wondering how some of the metro passes in marseille work.
1) There's a ticket solo for 1.50EUR and a carte 2 voyages for 3EUR. What's the point of the carte 2 voyages when it's exactly the same price as 2 ticket solos? Or is this just a french quirk?
2)Carte Libertés (5/10 voyages) states that it's for "voyages jusqu'à 4 personnes ensemble". So when 4 persons are travelling together and make one journey, is that counted as 1 voyage or 4 voyages?
Thank you!

I imagine that the single ticket is for use for one journey within a time period, and the other ticket is valid for the same journey plus another journey outside the original time period. So useful as a return ticket if you plan to go somewhere and not return for some time. Saves buying another ticket.
The other ticket is a discount ticket that saves 24 centimes per person if bought as a block of 5 or 10 and they put a limit to the number of times you swipe the card at entry point. So 4 people is 4 swipes. Or €5.05 (not €6 normal)
For a Group ticket you must read CARTE GROUPE. For 4 as a group you can take a €4.50 card which saves a little bit more.
But a group of 10 travelling together is the cheapest !
Also look at the One Day Pass as well as the City Pass.
Travel Tips for Marseille
Travel guides

If you know some French I can highly recommend to buy Le Guide du Routard for Marseille as it offers many adresses, tips and information. Some may say that Guide du Routard is the French version of Lonely Planet. It was very helpful because we didn't find a German travel guide just for Marseille, there is only the combination with Provence and the section about Marseille is usually not very big.
You even could get some discounts or a free drink in some restaurants when representing the guide. We got a free breakfast in our hotel every day due to the guide.
Also the Marseille cartoville was quite handy as the maps give a good overview and there are tipps for every area.

Plages du Prado

It can get hot walking around the steep streets of Marseille. Although most of the local coastline is rock, Marseille does have some pretty nice beaches, all over in the area known as Prado. The promenade has a lot of life at night, and by day is never too crowded. The verdant area beside the small beaches was put there in 1974 and inaugurated in 1985, and from 1888 to 1926 there was a great Casino here. By the rond-pont there is a very white copy of Michelangelo's David, made by Jule Cantini in 1913 and placed there in 1951.
The sea here is blue and fresh, and the view of the craggy hills behind Marseille is striking. The day I came I had wanted to go for a swim, but beside the sea it was actually quite cold from the breeze.
La Cité Radieuse, the principles
by JLBG
The lobby of the building can be visited. A poster reminds the basic principles of its structure. "In the living unit, apartments are grouped by pairs, fitting one into the other tête-bêche along corridors called inside streets… The typical apartment is built on 2 levels, as a house. The living room is full height (4.80 m) with a 3.66 m glass window that gives an unobstructed view on the landscape.

Monument aux morts de l'Armée d'Orient
by mvtouring
This monument is dedicated to the deaths of the Orient Army and to the heroes of far lands. Similar to an arch of triumph, it represents the door towards Orient, other name of Marseille. Designed by Architect Castel and realised by sculptor Sartorio in 1927.
