From Marseille to Castelnausary

by shatamar

I need to get from Marseille air port (from about 11:00) to Castelnaduary (boating base). The train from Marseille is leaving only after 15:00 and arrive too late.

According to:

http://www.bahn.de/p/view/international/englisch/international_guests.shtml

there is a train leaving at 12:54 which will get you to Castelnaudary for 16:28 (assuming you are travelling on a weekday). It leaves from Marseilles St. Charles station, and you will have to change at Montpellier. You will have to reserve seats in advance for this train. Although, in theory, you can do this a few minutes before departure it would be sensible to book online if you can. Use www.sncf.com to do this.

If 16:28 is still too late, then I do not know what alternatives (if any) you have.

Hi!
Maybe it would be easier to land in Toulouse or Carcassonne...

Can you change airports? Marseille is a long way from Castelnaudary.

Other airports which have better access are Toulouse, Carcassonne, Montpellier, Nimes or even Perpignan.

Travel Tips for Marseille

Corniche J.F. Kennedy

by KiNyA

A coast road which formerly linked the city centre to the outlying country cottages. The viaducts going over the valleys date from the Second Empire. The road comes out at the Plages Gaston Defferre which have been reclaimed from the sea and are now used for walks as well as providing numerous water sport facilities.

Le Corbusier, La Cité Radieuse

by JLBG

Designed by Le Corbusier after World War II and completed in 1952, the "Unité d'habitation" in Marseille, France was envisioned as a "machine for living in." When it was built, the people in Marseille called it "la maison du fada" (the house of the cracked one) !

One level of the building is now a hotel. Look at my hotel tip.

From the Airport Marseille...

by AlfredSt

From the Airport Marseille Provence take a bus to the city centre (FF50). It leaves every half an hour.
The Railway station St. Charles is in walking distance to the Vieux Port.
There is an Underground in Marseille but it closes already at 9pm due to security reasons. The bus is a good alternative though the traffic can sometimes be horrific.

Notre Dame de la Garde

by Tom_Fields

Notre Dame de la Garde is a seafarers' church, with models of ships hanging from the ceiling. Built in the 19th century, it was designed by Esperandieu (Hope in God), who was ironically a Protestant.

It has a mix of architectural styles, as befitting a cathedral in this city of mixed heritage and traditions. No mere carbon copy of the other cathedrals in France, this one is a unique piece of work. The inside is stunningly beautiful, and the front terrace offers some of the best views of the city.

R3) Ship Le Marseillois

by BeChar

Now on the north bank of the Port (Quai du Port), one ship stands out of hundreds of boats (3000) anchored in the Old Port: le 3 mâts, "Le Marseillois" sends us back into the past (created in XIXth century, original name Cala Virgili).

As a restaurant, the interior can be visited.
Lunch 12-14h30, Dinner 19h30-22h30, sunday and monday closed.
