Marseille - Ventimiglia

by engie-w

Hello,

Could anyone tell me how much the fare is to take the train from Ventimiglia to Marseille?

Thanks.

Acorrding to www.sncf.fr it would be 31,90 if you only take TER trains (for which you don't have to reserve). Taking TGVs for the whole or part of the way will make it about 5 euros more expensive (depending on the exact train). The TGV isn't that much faster, but it is somewhat more comfortable on this route.
TCV/CIV price is 38,80 which is what other railways would normally charge for this route. However the station at Ventimiglia might have a better deal available locally.

If you have a CIV or TER ticket you can take any train on the route that doesn't require reservation, so this is the most flexible.

Travel Tips for Marseille

Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde

by KiNyA

The highest point of the city at 154 m. The first chapel was built there in 1214. In 1524 Francois I had a fort built there. The present basilica, which is in the Romanesque-Byzantine style after the drawings of the architect Esperandieu forms part of the major projects undertaken during the Second Empire and was consedrated in 1864. The esplande offers the most impressive view of Marseille.

Possibly the easiest way to get some good photos of the locals is to ask them to take your picture first. Even if you get a child to take the picture it makes for a relaxed atmosphere and not 'just another tourist'

Marseille Transport

by alectrevor

Marseille is 3 hours from Paris by TGV train, and arrives at gare St Charles station. Buses and trams take you around above ground and the Metro underground. A single fare is 1 euro 70 cents. A tour bus is also on service. [see my tour bus tip ]

Visit Les Calanques

by gabyne

This area is a national park, in summer it's often forbidden to go there by car due to high risk of fire - it's quite dry. It's a very good and well known climbing area: there are many routes right above the sea or further inland.

This area is also visited by Marseille inhabitants on the weekends or during holidays so try to come here outside high season or weekends.

The street to reach the village of Sormiu is quite challenging, very narrow with lot of curves...Take care and drive slowly!

Parc du Pharo

by rwlittle

Parc du Pharo sits at one end of the Vieux-Port (old harbor). Sitting on a hill, it offers a good panoramic view of the harbor and the coastline. Chateau du Pharo was built here by Napoleon III for his Eugenie.

We walked down here from Notre Dame de la Garde, and snapped the photo of the Chateau and rested for a while.
