Stayed here when I backpacked through Europe during college. Hotel Les Cigales is a really sweet little hotel located just outside Marseille's city center. A really easy bus ride in. It's owned by an Italian family and they are absolutely great. Really helpful...even drove us to the little village, Allauch, a short walk away (there's a small church at the top that sells postcards and an amazing outdoor brick oven pizza restaurant). They were so helpful about getting around and what to see. The rooms are beautiful and clean with a decent sized bathroom. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a nice, quiet place to return to after exploring the city.
Unique Quality: International TV. There are tables with umbrellas outside to enjoy meals. I think they even will cook dinner if you order earlier in the day. Pizza delivery i think also. An in ground pool out back with nice places to lounge. It's like staying at a family friend's beautiful house. private. You can take walks around and it is very much the countryside even though only a few minutes from Vieux Port.
