I don't know much about the city, but think the more interesting part of it lies around the old port; and they have quite a nice beach though I didn't go to swim there, it was kind of enclosed with a fence, perhaps one has to pay for it? I don't know.

The famous open air "Marché aux poissons" stands at the bottom of the Cannebière, on the quai des Belges, on the Vieux Port. It is a must see in Marseille. It begins every day at 8:00 AM and lasts until about noon.
Inspired by Le Corbusier !

Close to the "Cité radieuse" of Le Corbusier stands a building which has been built recently and of which I do not know the name of the architect. However, I took its picture because I felt that it was beyond any evidence deeply inspired by Le Corbusier. Actually, there are plenty of spiritual sons of Le Corbusier !

After a long day's march round the touroid sites, thankful it is April not July (so warm and not hot), when the clock strikes 6 (or whenever the mood takes you) refresh yourself with a Pastis 45 (or Leffe Blonde, or whatever suits you best).
Sit down and join the locals in people watching (yachting types, touroids etc) as they trudge by.
This place will give you tapas too - spicy olives, raw carrot sticks, tapenade on "toast".
Fun way to warm up for dinner...
The Islands of Frioul, very far from town...

The islands- Pommégue and Ratonneau- are in the bay of Marseille and at 20 minutes with a boat its quite a trip in a quiet area...
Habitually you visit first the "Chateau d'If" and then you go to the islands where you can swim in some of the "calanques" of the isle , or take a good diner in one of the many restaurants on the side of the harbour.
There is an old lazaret called "Hopital Caroline"
